3D Spotted Cucumber Beetle & Peck’s Skipper

At first all I saw was some green bumps sticking our of this thistle bloom It took a minute to see what it really was–female Spotted Cucumber Beetles (Diabrotica undecimpunctat) providing nourishment for the eggs in their swollen abdomens.  You can also see the skipper butterfly (Polites peckius) carefully inserting it proboscis into the florets to reach nectar.
