Chinese Praying Mantis

These mantises were emerging when I found them in the morning.

Like a number of other insects, this praying mantis has a distinctive way of walking that appears to mimic foliage being rustled by the breeze.

I did not see the juvenile when I started videoing this mature female.  I must have disturbed it however and she saw it.

It takes longer to get into this grasshopper since its exoskeleton is tough.

For Encyclopedia of Life entry for this species: Tenodera aridifolia.  For BugGuide.net entry:  Tenodera aridifolia.
